The Temporal Dimension in Organizational StudiesDepartment of Social Policy, University of Trento, Italy
Department of Social Policy, University of Trento, Italy Organization studies and theories are based on time-free statements. This paper introduces the concept of 'organizational time' in order to explore the internal and particular time of the individual organization (or event) and the time involved in intra-organizational dynamics in relation to other times. Two research studies prompted the authors' reflections on organizational time as an important variable in the shaping of the scenario of decision-making processes. It is argued that the heuristic validity of the variable 'organizational time' lies in the interpretation of the choices and culture of organizational actors and in their defining of the boundaries of the organization.
